Nuclear Safety Team

The Nuclear Safety Team (NST) provides institutional Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H) management of nuclear safety and criticality safety for LLNL nuclear facilities and nuclear safety subject matter experts to program organizations with nuclear facilities.

NST Functions

Evaluation

Establish evaluation criteria as required by rules, regulations, orders and standards for nuclear safety analysis and criticality safety. Note that transportation activities are the responsibility of LSOD.

Verification

Document, oversee maintenance and verify the nuclear facility safety bases and nuclear/non-nuclear authorization agreements.

Program verification

Design, support and conduct nuclear safety analysis and criticality safety programmatic verifications.

Technical support

Provide technical support to LSO line managers in the areas of nuclear safety analysis and criticality safety evaluations.

Integration

Serve as focal point for integration and timely resolution of nuclear safety and criticality safety issues and determine and evaluate compliance with nuclear safety analysis and criticality safety rules, regulations and directives.

Assessment

Assess LLNL performance in the area of nuclear safety analysis and criticality safety.

Performance Improvement

Formulate strategy and develop the required infrastructure to improve LSO and LLNL performance in the areas of nuclear safety analysis and criticality safety evaluation.
